According to sales figures released by the research firm Canalys smartphones sales grew by 80% in 2010, with nearly 300 million units shipped.
The Canalys figures show that Google’s Android became the world’s leading smartphone platform in 2010. However, an overview of the mobile phone industry as a whole, conducted by research firm Asymco, has shown that Apple was by far and away the most profitable mobile phone vendor last year.
