Google Chrome has overtaken Firefox to become the second most popular web browser in the UK, new statistics show.
According to the web metrics firm Statcounter, a national advertising campaign and the promise of faster browsing speeds helped Chrome capture 22% of the UK browser market last month, placing it marginally ahead of Firefox.
Internet Explorer remained the most popular browser in the UK, with 45% of the market. However, it also lost ground to Chrome last month.
Worldwide, Chrome is currently the third most popular browser, behind Firefox and Internet Explorer, with just over 20% of the market. However, analysts expect Chrome to edge ahead of Firefox fairly soon, as Firefox has been steadily losing market share to its rival.
