Nearly seven million people received new mobile devices such as iPhones, iPads and Android smartphones and tablets this Christmas, activation figures show.
According to Flurry, who provide metrics services to app developers, 6.8 million new iOS and Android devices were activated on December 25th. That represents an increase of 142% on the number of new iOS and Android activations on Christmas Day in 2010.
Google's head of mobile has additionally claimed that 3.7 million new Android smartphones and tablets were activated on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day of 2011.
